What to expect after you order

Every Humat valve is made from aluminum alloy for a reason: it’s light enough for one firefighter to carry and mount without help, but it needs extra reinforcement to survive years of fireground and industrial use. That’s why every valve is heat treated for added strength and hard coated on top of that, both to prevent corrosion and to increase surface strength against the dents, drags, and impacts that come with being dropped, dragged, and stepped on at every incident it’s used at.

Bracket options

Humat offers both rigid brackets (with and without strap) and fold-down brackets for tailboard mounting. We generally recommend against mounting a rigid, uncovered bracket on the tailboard itself, since an empty bracket in that position can be a snagging hazard for a firefighter’s foot or pant leg — the fold-down bracket is the safer option for tailboard mounting. That said, we understand every department’s engine layout and hose evolution is different, and we’re glad to help you find the mounting configuration that works for your rig.

The rigid bracket is generally better suited to a side-mount or compartment location, where there’s no risk of a firefighter contacting an empty bracket during normal movement around the apparatus. If you’re not sure which option fits your engine, send us photos or measurements of the intended mounting location and we’ll recommend a configuration

What typically needs replacing over time

None of these require specialty tools to replace, and all are available to order using the model and configuration details described below.

O-rings

The most common replacement item, since they seal every flange connection.

Flange bolts

Can loosen or corrode over years of use and reinstallation.

Bracket straps

Wear from repeated mounting and dismounting during apparatus checks and calls.

Handle assembly components

Subject to the most repeated motion of any part on the valve.

Keeping a small stock on hand

Many departments and industrial brigades keep a small stock of common wear items — O-rings and flange bolts in particular — on hand at the station or facility, since these are the parts most likely to need replacement between scheduled service intervals. Keeping a spare set on the shelf means routine maintenance doesn’t have to wait on a shipment.

If you're moving to Humat from another brand

Departments replacing an existing 4-way valve with a Humat valve should send us the current hose diameter and thread or coupling standard in use across their fleet. Because Humat couplings bolt on independently from the valve body, we can typically match an existing configuration directly, so crews don’t need to relearn hose connections at the same time they’re adopting a new valve.

We stand behind the valve after it leaves the shop

If you have a question about a part, a repair, or how a valve is holding up after years of service, reach out and we’ll help you find a solution. Because we manufacture the valve ourselves, questions about an older or unusual configuration reach people who can actually answer them.

Maintenance & parts questions

How often should I inspect my Humat valve?

Inspect the valve as part of your department’s regular apparatus checks, paying particular attention to bracket straps, O-rings, and handle movement.

Ordinary hand tools already found at most stations — no specialty equipment is required for standard upkeep.

Most standard parts ship the day after we receive your order. Contact us for current lead times on larger or custom orders.

Yes — contact us with whatever model or configuration information you have, and we’ll help identify the right parts.

Yes. Call or email us and we’ll walk you through installation, operation, or maintenance questions directly.

Send us photos and any measurements you have, and we’ll help identify the correct configuration and parts.

Need a part or a maintenance question answered?

Call us directly or send us your model and part number and we’ll get it shipped. If you’re not sure which part you need or can’t locate a model number, send us photos or a description of the issue and we’ll help you figure out exactly what to order.
